The F2P Bandwagon gets bigger…

Everyone who saw this one coming, put your hands up…

Friggatriskaidekaphobia:

(from Greek frigga meaning “Friday”, tris meaning “3,” kai meaning “and,” and deka meaning “10”) is fear of Friday the 13th.

A Reason to Enjoy Friday the 13th – F2P!

Yes, you heard right we don’t have friggatriskaidekaphobia.  After much thought and planning, Alganon is going Free to Play!  This means no purchase is required to pick up the game and continue exploring the world of Alganon.

Okay, yeah that’s just about everyone, except you over in the corner, you can go back to your Farmville game there.

The chart is as generous as EQ2 and LotRO in some areas, but not so much in others:

I’m not sure this is the right move for Alganon, but then, I’m not sure at this point what would be a good move for Alganon.  I’m a sucker for a new world though, as you ought to know if you dropped by here yesterday, and I never got beyod the basic starter areas for Alganon, so I’m sure I’ll dowload the client and give it a try.

At the very least, I’ll know at that point if they’ve fixed the longstanding bug that..you know, keeps me from actually logging in and playing the game.   Still, I don’t want to be too harsh.  Given all that the game has endured from the business end of things, its not half bad.  There isn’t anything really to complain about, but theres nothing really to write home about either.

For now though, I’m going to go take a nap.  School’s back in around here, which means early mornings have returned to my household, and the evidence of lack of sleep is that I just had to look up “either” because I tried spelling it with an “a” and then without the “i” before I gave up and Google’d it.  Oi.

  1. Puh-lease. Alganon should have been free from the start. Better yet, maybe they should pay US to play. (And yes, I was in the beta. Briefly. Till I saw it was just a WoW-clone despite the site’s big talk about uniqueness. Bitter, me?)

    1. I was too (in the Beta that is). I wasn’t really bitter, as I saw from the beginning dev posts that they were not aiming for anything new. There’s a post somewhere on here about that. But yes, there was nothing there to…encourage…me to spend money to play.

      1. Ah, here it is: https://hzero.wordpress.com/2009/05/14/redesigning-the-tank/

Forgot to tag it Alganon for some reason. Fixed. Anyway, the dev in the article basically said he’s not there to do anything new (granted, I didn’t realize the extreme to which they would take that philosophy lol). This is the same thing that Blackguard has said about Copernicus, which is why I don’t have any real interest in it either, despite the considerable creative firepower that’s backing it and my respect for 38 himself.

      2. Heh see, I must have missed that — I remember reading all the stuff they had to say about crafting and… eh, some sort of offline something-or-other system that sounded vaguely like EVE, and it all seemed very interesting. Then when the beta came down and it was just an ever-so-slightly reskinned WoW, I gave up. Might have been unfair but time ain’t cheap these days. 😉
